Jharkhand CM Criticizes Central Government for Railways’ Decision on Concession
Following the elimination of train fare concessions for senior citizens, Indian Railways has seen a revenue increase exceeding Rs 5800 crore. This move has sparked criticism from the Jharkhand government, particularly targeting the BJP-led central government. Chief Minister Champai Soren has been vocal on social media, contrasting the central government’s approach with Jharkhand’s efforts to support the elderly through the Sarvajan Pension Scheme.
RANCHI – Champai Soren highlighted the support provided to the elderly in his recent social media post, emphasizing the importance of respect and cooperation for them in their later years.
He pointed out that the Jharkhand government has lowered the pension eligibility age to 50 for women and SC/ST men to ensure they live dignified lives.
Soren’s comments came after revelations that Indian Railways generated an additional Rs 5800 crore by rescinding senior citizens‘ fare concessions.
The Chief Minister criticized the central government for profiting at the expense of senior citizens while boasting about Jharkhand’s initiative to aid over 36 lakh elderly citizens through its pension scheme.
In contrast to the central government’s revenue-driven approach, the Jharkhand government, led by Champai Soren, has launched the Sarvajan Pension Scheme, benefiting every needy individual.
Soren’s criticism underlines the significant disparity between the central and Jharkhand governments’ treatment of the elderly, showcasing his government’s commitment to their welfare.
