PM Modi to Inaugurate 17 Station Upgrades Under Amrit Scheme, Gamharia, Chakradharpur, Chaibasa Set to Get Facelift
In a significant push towards modernizing Indian Railways, 17 stations in Jharkhand are set for redevelopment, marking a new era of enhanced passenger facilities and city integration.
JAMSHEDPUR – A new chapter in the modernization of Indian Railways is unfolding in Jharkhand, with 17 stations earmarked for a comprehensive upgrade under the ambitious Amrit Station Scheme.
This initiative, aimed at transforming railway stations into city centers, is set to significantly enhance the passenger experience while fostering urban development around these hubs.
The foundation for these upgrades, championed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, will be laid on February 26, signaling a substantial move towards realizing the vision of a New India.
With a budget of Rs 244.95 crore, the project underscores the government’s commitment to improving infrastructure and passenger services across the country.
The redesign of these stations, inspired by local culture, heritage, and architecture, aims to promote local artisans through the ‘One Station One Product’ scheme, thereby branding regional specialties.
Accessibility Enhancements for All
Ensuring accessibility for every passenger, especially those physically challenged, is a cornerstone of the modernization efforts.
Upgrades will include the introduction of accessible washrooms, low-height counters, entrance ramps, reserved parking, and help booths, alongside Braille script signage, ensuring inclusivity.
Tactile guiding paths on platforms and ramps for foot overbridges (FOBs) will further aid mobility for all, reflecting a comprehensive approach to accessibility.
A Focus on Safety and Efficiency
Key to the redevelopment is the enhancement of safety and passenger experience.
The inclusion of transitional entrance porches, optimized parking, and integrated local art underscores a commitment to not just functionality but also aesthetic appeal.
Improved navigation through clear signages, CCTV surveillance, and a public address system will ensure a seamless and secure travel experience.
Additionally, environmental sustainability is a priority, with plans for solar panels, LED lighting, water recycling, and rainwater harvesting to promote energy efficiency and biodiversity.
Planned Facilities and Urban Integration
The redevelopment plans are ambitious, encompassing the replacement of old station buildings with new structures equipped with modern amenities such as executive lounges, cafeterias, and waiting rooms.
Enhancements to platform surfaces, shelters, and access roads, along with better lighting and landscaped areas, aim to provide a welcoming atmosphere for travelers.
The project’s vision extends beyond the stations themselves, seeking to integrate them into the city fabric as vibrant city centers, enhancing traffic flow and inter-modal connectivity.
The initiative represents a significant investment in Jharkhand’s infrastructure, with detailed master plans in place to ensure that the stations serve as catalysts for urban development.
The project not only aims to improve the travel experience but also to boost tourism and economic activity in the region.
By elevating the status of these stations to symbols of local pride and heritage, the Amrit Station Scheme is poised to have a lasting impact on Jharkhand’s social and economic landscape.
