Sundernagar Locals Protest Against Mill’s Water Pollution
In a recent incident at Sundernagar, Jamshedpur, villagers demand immediate action to address the pollution caused by a local flower mill, impacting their daily lives and sacred spaces.
JAMSHEDPUR – The longstanding dispute between Sundernagar villagers and a local flower mill over pollution issues saw a new development when villagers, armed with traditional weapons, barricaded the mill’s entrance.
They are calling for swift measures to stop the mill’s wastewater from desecrating their fields, barns, and places of worship.
The crisis peaked on Friday when the mill’s contaminated water invaded Jaher Than, a sacred site for the community.
This violation spurred the villagers, who had been enduring the pollution for an extended period, to take drastic action.
Jag Jeevan Singh, the village head, reported that the mill’s wastewater has been defiling their worship place, warning of potential violent protests if the issue remains unaddressed.
Ajay Aggarwal, the mill owner, hurried to the scene upon learning of the protest, vowing to rectify the situation within 20 days.
He emphasized the mill’s 70-year history and its commitment to community cooperation.
This incident has highlighted the ongoing challenges faced by the Sundernagar villagers, who have repeatedly voiced their concerns over environmental damage without seeing effective resolutions.
