30th Jharkhand State Sentence Revision Board Meeting Decides on Inmate Release

Chief Minister Soren Emphasizes Rehabilitation and Tracking for Released Inmates

RANCHI – Chief Minister Hemant Soren presided over the 30th meeting of the Jharkhand State Sentence Revision Board, a significant session that reviewed the status of 109 life-term prisoners across state prisons.

In a pivotal decision, 56 convicts are slated for release.

The Chief Minister stressed the importance of continuous monitoring and observation of freed inmates.

An extensive review process involved inputs from courts, district probation officers, jail superintendents, and district superintendents of police.

Plans for the rehabilitation and reintegration of these inmates into society were discussed, emphasizing the need for structured support.

Soren highlighted the plight of elderly inmates, advocating their connection to the government’s Universal Pension Plan to ensure their welfare post-release.

The meeting revealed that since the inception of the Jharkhand State Sentence Revision Board, 1831 prisoners have been released.

Officials reported that 457 inmates’ households have been inspected since 2019, with 378 benefiting from various government programs.

The meeting was attended by key officials including Avinash Kumar, Ajay Kumar Singh, Manoj Kaushik, Nalin Kumar, Arun Kumar Rai, Hamid Akhtar, and Chandramouli Singh.
