Led by Babulal Marandi, BJP MLAs protest against the Jharkhand Competitive Examination Bill 2023, citing human rights concerns and procedural violations.
RANCHI – After the recent passage of the Jharkhand Competitive Examination MLA 2023 Assembly Bill, a delegation of 23 BJP MLAs led by Babu Lal Marandi marched to Raj Bhavan on Friday to protest what they perceive as significant shortcomings in the legislation.
The BJP contends that the bill contains many loopholes that could infringe upon human rights.
These include provisions for direct arrests without investigation, contrary to Supreme Court directives, and the registration of FIRs against examinees for questions arising after examination malpractices.
Babulal Marandi, the leader of the delegation, argued that several conditions in the bill warrant broader discussion, and many need to be deleted outright.
He accused the government of trying to suppress the voices of the youth and the unemployed through the proposed legislation, alleging that the administration is seeking to manipulate future appointments to prevent dissent.
According to the BJP MLAs, the bill represents an attempt to enact this control mechanism.
In response to these concerns, the delegation met with the Governor to request that the bill not be passed.
