Poetry enthusiasts gather at Rabindra Bhavan in Jamshedpur to celebrate International Tagore Poetry Reading Day and enjoy recitations of Tagore’s works.
JAMSHEDPUR – The Tagore Society marked the International Tagore Poetry Reading Day with a special gathering of poetry enthusiasts at Rabindra Bhavan.
Ashish Chaudhuri, the Honorary General Secretary of the Tagore Society, enlightened the audience about the historical significance of this day.
This day commemorates Rabindranath Tagore’s iconic recital in 1912 at the residence of English poet Roden Stein, which led to his recognition as a leading poet of his era and his subsequent nomination and victory of the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1913.
As part of the celebrations, eminent poets including Rajanya Dandpat, Dutee Chakraborty, Madhuchanda Majumdar, Sangeeta Lahiri, Rachna Mahto, Shipra Mahanti, Shantanu Chakraborty, Kalyani Dasgupta, Achintam Gupta, Purabi Ghosh, Sabyasanchi Chand, Aseem Bagchi, T. Shashi, and Ghasiram Murmu took to the stage.
Their recitations included a variety of languages, with three poems in English, one each in Santhali, Sanskrit, and Telugu, two in Hindi, and eighteen in Bengali.
Chaudhuri emphasized the importance of this day for aspiring poets and writers, highlighting the timeless relevance of Tagore’s works and the value they hold in inspiring the new generation of literary contributors.
The city’s literary and cultural center transformed into a hub for poetry readings, marking the celebration of the esteemed poet’s globally recognized contributions to literature.
The celebration concluded with the city’s appreciation for Rabindranath Tagore’s works, symbolizing the undying influence of his poetic prowess.
