125th birth anniversary celebration features performances of rebel poet’s works
Jamshedpur’s cultural scene comes alive with Nazrul Sandhya event, showcasing the enduring impact of the renowned Bengali poet and composer.
JAMSHEDPUR – The Tagore Society commemorated the 125th birth anniversary of Kazi Nazrul Islam with a vibrant "Nazrul Sandhya" program at Rabindra Bhawan.
"Nazrul’s rebellious spirit and nationalistic compositions continue to inspire generations," stated Chowdhury Ashis, General Secretary of the Tagore Society.
The event featured performances by Kolkata artists Goswami Sushmita and Adhikari Shayantan, alongside local talents Gupta Anindita and Choudhary Roy Shubhendu.
Accompanying musicians included Chakraborty Prasad Shyama on tabla, Roy Mukul on keyboard, Das Ashok on flute, and Chatterjee Amitabh on manjira.
"This celebration aims to introduce younger generations to Nazrul’s immense contributions to Bengali literature and culture," Chowdhury explained.
Kazi Nazrul Islam, known for his rebellious poetry and nationalistic songs, has been a beloved figure in Bengali culture for over a century.
The program showcased various "Nazrul Geeti" or Nazrul songs, highlighting the poet’s musical and literary legacy.
Organizers emphasized the importance of preserving and promoting Nazrul’s works for future generations.
The event drew music enthusiasts and literary aficionados from across Jamshedpur, celebrating Bengal’s rich cultural heritage.
This commemoration underscores the Tagore Society’s commitment to fostering appreciation for significant cultural figures in Eastern India.
