Jamshedpur: A Sonari youth, age 27, was found guilty and given a 25-year prison term along with a fine of Rs. 35,000 by Sanjay Kumar Upadhyay, an additional district judge who also serves as a POCSO Special Court judge.
According to the sentence a further three years and three months in jail would be imposed if the fine is not paid.
Seven witnesses, including the investigating officer, were examined by the prosecution during the trial.
On September 21, 2021, the convict kidnapped a 13-year-old girl from her home in Panchvati Nagar, Sonari, on the pretense of proposing to marry her.
He allegedly abducted the girl, who resided nearby, and then sexually assaulted her.
Police looked for the girl after the victim’s father filed a FIR at the Sonari police station.
Five days later, the child was located and on the basis of her statement the police apprehended the accused and booked him under POCSO.
