Reports say Trump paid no taxes in 2020

A committee of the United States House of Representatives has released several years of income tax returns of former President Donald Trump.

According to the return published on Tuesday local time, Trump paid $1.1 million in income tax in the first three years after becoming president. However, he did not pay any tax in 2020.

The Ways and Means Committee on Taxation of the US House of Representatives held a closed-door vote last Tuesday to make the income tax return information public. The committee agreed to make the returns public by a vote of 24-16.

Republicans will take control of the House of Representatives in January after winning the midterm elections last November. They criticized the vote calling it ‘divisive’. Cabin Brady, the representative of the Republican party, expressed concern about this. He expressed apprehension that due to this vote, the Congress may take countermeasures.

Trump will face more scrutiny as income tax returns come out. The Republican leader has also expressed his desire to fight in the US presidential election in 2024. However, there are opponents of this decision within his own party.

Earlier in 2020, The New York Times managed to get a copy of Trump’s income tax returns. Then the daily published a series of reports highlighting information about his income during last 18 years.

It was suggested that Trump did not pay income tax for 10 years during that period.
