- East Singhbhum police say the campaign will continue further
JAMSHEDPUR – Police teams have covered villages and localities in the Bagbera area with an awareness drive against drug abuse, urging residents to pass on information about the illegal trade.
The exercise was carried out under community policing. It followed directions from the senior superintendent of police.
The deputy superintendent of police for law and order led the effort. Teams reached several settlements in the police station area.
Moreover, officers explained the harm caused by addiction. The message to stay away from intoxicants was conveyed directly.
A dialogue was held with villagers during the visits. They were told that addiction does not affect health alone.
Its impact extends to the family, officers said. Society at large bears the consequences too.
Besides, an appeal was made about reporting. Residents were asked to inform police about the illegal trade nearby.
Any consumption of narcotic substances should also be reported. Timely action becomes possible in that case, officers said.
However, the campaign carried a particular focus on the young. Youths were urged to keep away from intoxicants.
They were asked to take part in education and sports. Participation in positive activities was also encouraged.
Meanwhile, the response from residents was described as supportive. Villagers welcomed the initiative during the interaction.
They assured the police of their cooperation. The assurance was given at the meetings held in the area.
In addition, the district police issued a clear statement on continuity. The drive against narcotics will go on, they said.
Efforts are being made through community policing. The stated aim is a drug-free and safe society.
The district has recorded repeated enforcement action this year. Two men were arrested with cannabis in the Jadugoda area in July.
On the other hand, harder drugs have also surfaced. A brown sugar crackdown led to two arrests in June.
A peddler was picked up in Mango under Operation Prahar. Police had earlier sought public views on the rising drug trade.
Awareness work has run alongside the raids. A de-addiction campaign concluded in the city in June.
The state drive had ended with a human chain in Jamshedpur. An awareness chariot was flagged off by the deputy commissioner and the SSP.
The Bagbera area had also seen an assault case this month. Police arrested three men and continued the search for others.
