Officers Recover 1,299 Packets, Cash And QR Codes From Rented House

JAMSHEDPUR – East Singhbhum police have arrested two people after a major crackdown on illegal cannabis trade. However, the alleged supplier remains at large.
Officers recovered 3.680 kilograms of cannabis packed into 1,299 small pouches. The raid took place in the Azadnagar police station area.
Acting on a tip, police raided a house on Barish Colony Road Number 4. The location falls under Behra Bagan in Azadnagar.
A special team, formed on the senior superintendent’s directive, led the operation. It was headed by a deputy superintendent of police.
Officers searched the house belonging to Binita Tirkey. Meanwhile, they also recovered cash, mobile phones and QR codes linked to sales.
Investigators found the house was being used to pack cannabis into small pouches. These pouches were then sold to buyers locally.
Police also arrested Tirkey’s associate, Abdul Shakil, during the raid. Preliminary questioning revealed both procured the cannabis from a Bundu resident.
The supplier is known locally by the alias “Dhoni.” Besides Azadnagar, the network allegedly sold cannabis in Mango, Kapali and nearby localities.
Police have registered a case under relevant sections of the NDPS Act. Both accused have since been sent to judicial custody.
In addition, officers said they are examining the alleged supplier’s role in the network. Investigators are working from Ranchi-adjacent Bundu to trace his movements.
Tirkey, 59, resides on Barish Colony Road Number 4 in Behra Bagan, Azadnagar. Shakil, 69, lives on Green Valley Road Number 17 in Hussaini Mohalla.
Recovered items included a keypad mobile phone, plastic wrappers for packing and identity documents. Police said, “others involved in the trade will also be identified and acted against.”
The case follows a string of similar seizures across the district in recent days. In Baharagora, officers earlier seized 113 kilograms of cannabis from an interstate supplier, a consignment separately reported as worth ₹60 lakh.
That earlier Baharagora bust also led to one arrest, police said at the time. Other recent district operations include a Kapali theft arrest and a foiled dacoity plot in Seraikela.
