Company Eyes 30 Lakh Installations by 2029 Under Expansion Push

JAMSHEDPUR – Tata Power Solaroof’s financing arm has enabled over ₹8,500 crore in loans for rooftop solar customers so far, the company said Tuesday, as it disclosed a nationwide installation milestone. The financing came through a network of more than 25 partner banks and NBFCs.
The company, part of Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited, said it had completed 5,19,673 rooftop installations as of July 31. That tally represents a 14 per cent market share and puts the firm ahead of its stated target of 30 lakh installations by 2029.
CRISIL has ranked Tata Power Solaroof as India’s top rooftop solar player for 12 straight years. The company credited its scale and execution record for the recognition.
Rooftop solar has become an increasingly popular option for households and businesses looking to cut electricity costs. Tata Power Solaroof said it now supports customers through over 700 channel partners and 250-plus authorised service partners across the country, covering everything from initial consultation to after-sales support.
Under what the company calls its ‘Quality Lifelong’ promise, installations come with 25 to 30-year performance warranties on solar modules and a minimum five-year system warranty. The firm also pledges an initial response to service requests within two hours, with resolution promised inside 48 hours.
Much of the recent growth has come through the ‘Ghar Ghar Solar’ initiative, which aligns with the government’s Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana. Launched in 2024, the programme now runs across 11 states and one Union Territory, including Odisha, Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, Andhra Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Bihar. Together, these regions cover a population of more than 90 crore.
Financing has been a central piece of the push. Eligible residential customers can access loans through a Special Financing Scheme with down payments as low as zero, addressing a barrier for households unable to meet the standard 10 per cent down-payment requirement under the central government’s financing framework.
Commercial and industrial customers get a separate set of options, including the SunSmart Flexi EMI Scheme, described as a “Pay As You Save” model that ties repayments to projected solar generation. The company said such tools help businesses reduce upfront capital needs while still capturing long-term savings.
Tata Power Solaroof’s commercial footprint spans sectors including textiles, steel, cold storage, information technology, hospitality, biotechnology, FMCG, consumer durables, automotive, data centres and tea estates. It offers end-to-end services covering system design, engineering, installation, financing and post-installation support for these enterprises.
Beyond daytime generation, the company has also expanded into battery storage under its Tata Power Battery Storage brand. The residential Mysine range offers systems from 5 kWh to 40 kWh, letting homeowners store surplus solar power for use during evenings or periods of low sunlight. For commercial and industrial customers, the PowerHub range scales from 60 kWh to 5 MWh, with further scalability based on operational needs.
Combined, rooftop solar and battery storage form what the company describes as an integrated clean energy ecosystem, allowing consumers to generate, store and use power on their own terms. Consumers interested in the offerings can reach the company’s helpline at 1800 257 7777.
Tata Power’s broader portfolio includes over 26 GW of operational and under-construction capacity, of which roughly 17.7 GW is clean and green energy. The Tata Group company also operates over 7,800 circuit kilometres of transmission lines and serves more than 13 million distribution customers, alongside an EV charging network spanning over 7,000 public points across 717 cities and towns.
The Tata Steel bonus agreement for workers is also expected to be finalised this week, while the group’s renewable capacity crossed 7 GW following a new solar project commissioning in Tamil Nadu. Separately, Tata Steel widened a corporate services role in a recent leadership reshuffle, and the company earlier clarified its position on an unrelated closure decision.
