Bagbera Housing Colony Residents Face Disruption After Break-In

JAMSHEDPUR – Unidentified thieves broke into a pump house operating under the Bagbera Housing Colony water supply scheme and made off with a brass check valve fitted to the main pipeline. The theft has left roughly 1,140 quarters without water since Tuesday morning.
Police said the thieves entered the facility through a window. They then removed the brass valve from the main pipeline before fleeing, disabling the supply system in the process.
Residents across the colony have faced significant hardship since the disruption began. Meanwhile, local representatives moved quickly once they learned of the incident.
Panchayat Samiti member Sunil Gupta reached the spot, along with Sharwan Mishra, representing Jharna Mishra, and ward member Umesh Pandey. The group questioned pump house operator Ram Singh about the incident and inspected the site themselves.
Their inspection confirmed that the thieves had entered through the window and taken the pipeline’s brass check valve. The representatives then alerted Bagbera police station and the junior engineer of the PHED department about the theft.
A police team arrived at the scene soon after and began an investigation. Officers have assured that they will take necessary action and work to identify and arrest those responsible.
Separately, the PHED department’s junior engineer said repair work on the damaged system has already begun. The department has promised to restore water supply to the affected areas as quickly as possible.
Gupta, Mishra and Pandey jointly urged police to solve the theft case swiftly. They also demanded that the PHED department repair the supply system without delay and ensure regular water reaches all 1,140 quarters.
Utility theft has disrupted essential services elsewhere in the district recently. Thieves in Kovali made off with an inverter and battery from a panchayat secretariat, while robbers in Sitaramdera area posed as census workers to loot a household. In Chhota Govindpur, an unrelated cylinder theft case saw goods recovered after a police probe, and water infrastructure issues have also surfaced elsewhere, including waterlogging at a school in Adityapur that has hampered daily functioning.
