RAMGARH – A coal-laden truck collided head-on with a passenger vehicle in Jharkhand’s Ramgarh district late Thursday night, killing seven people.
The accident occurred near Lari-Barlaung under the Rajrappa police station area. One person sustained critical injuries in the crash.
The injured victim has been referred to Ranchi for advanced medical treatment. Those killed in the accident are reportedly associated with a band-tasha party.
Band-tasha parties are traditional musical troupes often hired for weddings and religious processions in the region. However, the exact purpose of their travel at the time of the accident has not been confirmed.
Local villagers rushed to the spot upon learning of the collision. Rajrappa police personnel and officers from other police stations in Ramgarh district also reached the site soon after.
All the injured were immediately taken to Ramgarh Sadar Hospital. Doctors declared seven persons dead upon arrival at the hospital.
One individual was found to be in extremely critical condition. He was subsequently referred to Ranchi for further treatment.
Rajrappa falls within Ramgarh district, an area known for its coal mining operations. The district has reported several mining and road-related accidents in recent months.
Earlier this month, a mine accident in Ramgarh claimed the lives of four workers due to toxic gas exposure. Separately, a robbery had also been reported earlier this year at a jewellery shop in the Rajrappa area of Ramgarh.
Meanwhile, the district has also witnessed fatal elephant attacks this year, with three people killed. In a separate case, a police gunfight in Ramgarh had injured a member of a criminal gang.
Truck collisions involving multiple casualties have also been reported elsewhere in Jharkhand recently. In Chandil, a bus and truck collision had left a driver trapped and a passenger injured. In Potka, a similar car and truck collision had left five people injured, three of them critically.
