Key Points:
- Rizwan Siddiqui arrested with two pistols, 33 live cartridges in Nirsa
- Accused was plotting attack on railway contractor over extortion
- Police recover mobile phone, hunt for other gang members
DHANBAD – Police arrested a member of fugitive gangster Prince Khan’s gang from the Nirsa police station area under Chirkunda in Dhanbad district on Wednesday.
The accused, identified as Rizwan Siddiqui, was nabbed with two country-made pistols and 33 live cartridges. A special team formed on a tip-off from the senior superintendent of police carried out the operation.
Siddiqui was caught red-handed with the weapons during the raid. He hails from Vrindavanpur Mugma area within the Nirsa police station limits.
According to police interrogation, Siddiqui had been working for the gang of fugitive gangster Prince Khan. He was reportedly planning an attack on a railway contractor over an extortion demand.
However, police received information about the plan before it could be executed. The team subsequently moved in and caught him along with the weapons.
Rural SP S Mohammad Yakub addressed a press conference to share details of the arrest. He said Siddiqui had been staying at a friend’s house in the area while arranging for a consignment of weapons.
The arms, he said, were being procured to fire upon the railway contractor as part of the extortion bid. Police, however, intercepted the plan in time.
Officers recovered two country-made pistols, 33 live cartridges, and a mobile phone from Siddiqui. The mobile phone is now being examined to trace other criminals linked to the network.
“Investigation is underway to identify and arrest other people associated with the accused,” the SP said.
This is not the first such crackdown linked to the Prince Khan network in the region. Police earlier arrested an arms supplier tied to the same gang in Dhanbad, recovering pistols and revolvers. Dhanbad has also seen other recent weapons-related cases, including a firing incident in which a case was registered against 32 people. Elsewhere in the district, a mayor’s supporter was shot inside his home in April. In Jamshedpur, a similar extortion-linked case saw a land dealer fired upon over an extortion dispute. Police have also made other recent arrests over country-made weapons, including four accused held in a Kadma firing case, and two held with a loaded pistol in a foiled crime plot at Nagadih.
