Mashedpur: The 15th Jharkhand State Senior Swimming Championship concluded on Monday at JRD Tata Sports Complex, Jamshedpur. Swimmers from across the state performed brilliantly in this competition organized under the aegis of East Singhbhum District Swimming Association.
Host East Singhbhum maintained its dominance in the competition and won the team championship in both men’s and women’s categories. In the men’s category, East Singhbhum team secured the first position with 184 points, while Ranchi was the runner-up with 63 points. In the women’s category also, East Singhbhum won the title with 123 points and Ranchi stood second with 48 points.
Dipanshu Singh of Jamshedpur won the title of best swimmer in the men’s category by scoring a total of 35 points in the competition. Whereas in the women’s category, Richa Sahu got the distinction of becoming the best swimmer by scoring 28 points.
Organizers said that based on the performance of the players in this championship, Jharkhand team will be selected for the upcoming Senior National Swimming Championship. The national competition is scheduled to be held in Ahmedabad from June 18.
Varun Bajaj was present as the chief guest at the award distribution ceremony. Many dignitaries including Mukul Vinayak Choudhari, Barkha Sinha, Upendra Tiwari, Shailendra Tiwari, K. Prabhakar Rao, Rambalak Singh and Firoz Khan were present on this occasion.
