Rising Theft Wave Alarms Jamshedpur Residents

Thieves Target Golmuri Market After Birsanagar Heist

Key Points:

  • Rs 30,000 stolen from shop office in Golmuri Market
  • Major jewellery theft reported earlier in Birsanagar locality
  • Police investigation underway, but neither case solved yet

JAMSHEDPUR – A sudden surge in theft incidents has shaken public confidence across parts of the city.

In the Golmuri area, burglars forced open the office of a shop-owner at Sadbhavna Market and made away with approximately ₹30,000 in cash. Meanwhile, in the Birsanagar neighbourhood, thieves earlier escaped with jewellery valued at several lakhs. The first incident was promptly reported to the Golmuri Police Station, yet no arrests have been announced in either case.

A few months ago, Golmuri police had arrested three suspects and seized stolen scooters, but locals say crime has once again increased. In nearby Birsanagar too, a major mobile theft gang was busted, though the trend of repeated robberies has continued.

Local traders claim that patrols and preventive vigilance remain lacking. “We see break-ins almost every week and no visible follow-up,” said one market exhibitor. The Jamshedpur SSP had recently suspended officers over negligence and directed increased night patrols, but residents allege that response times remain slow.

The recent Golmuri case adds to a series of thefts that include jewellery heists, mobile thefts and temple robberies in the city. With incidents now spanning both residential and commercial areas, citizens are calling for immediate deployment of more beat officers.

It remains uncertain how quickly law enforcement can regain control of the theft spree in Golmuri, Birsanagar and other parts of Jamshedpur.
