Seraikela Police Crack ₹3 Lakh Bank Heist Case

Six Arrested for September 29 Robbery; Weapons and Cash Recovered

SERAIKELA – Seraikela-Kharsawan police arrested six individuals for a ₹3 lakh heist targeting a Bank of India agent in September.

Eechagarh police station officials cracked the robbery case. The incident occurred on September 29 near Basahatu village. Authorities apprehended six suspects in the investigation.

The accused include Amit Kumar Mahato and Kamlesh Mahato. Moreover, Jyotilal Mahato alias Jyoti was taken into custody. Rajesh Namta, Sanjay Das and Abhiram Kumhar were also arrested.

Phalguni Gope, a Bank of India Chauka branch agent, was the victim. He resides in Agshiya village area. The complainant had withdrawn ₹3 lakh from the bank.

He was returning to Agshiya on September 29 evening. However, three motorcycle-borne assailants intercepted him near Basahatu. The robbers struck his associate Durga Oraon on the head.

They forcibly stopped the motorcycle through ramming. The attackers then fled with the cash.

Chandil SDPO Arvind Binha disclosed the arrests on Wednesday. A special raid team was formed under Station In-charge Vikramaditya Pandey. The Superintendent of Police had ordered the operation.

Sub-Inspector Heeralal Kumar joined the investigation team. Furthermore, Vishwajit Tiwari and armed personnel participated. The team conducted extensive raids across the district.

Police recovered ₹11,900 cash from the accused. One country-made pistol was seized during raids. Besides, four live cartridges were found with suspects.

Authorities confiscated eight mobile phones from the gang. One laptop was also recovered as evidence. The items are being examined for further leads.

Rajesh Namta faces multiple criminal cases from before. On the other hand, Sanjay Das has prior offenses recorded. In addition, Jyotilal Mahato carries a criminal history.

All six suspects have been sent to judicial custody. They await trial proceedings in the case. Police continue searching for remaining stolen money.

Investigations are ongoing to trace other involved criminals. SDPO Binha stated that efforts are underway. The team is working to recover the balance amount.
