JAMSHEDPUR – A harassment case involving a college student in the Telco area of Jamshedpur has escalated, drawing widespread criticism after a viral video showed police misconduct. The incident occurred when a group of young men harassed and assaulted the student while she was returning home.

Police Misconduct Adds to Public Outrage

The situation intensified when the victim’s mother visited the Telco police station to file an FIR. Instead of receiving support, she was allegedly abused and threatened by the station officer, who reportedly ordered her to drop the case. This shocking incident was captured on video, which has since gone viral across Jamshedpur.

Reacting to the video, the Inspector General of Police (IGP) directed the City SP to investigate the matter and take swift action. The City SP has assured the public that those responsible will face strict consequences.

Political Leaders Criticize Government

The incident has also drawn criticism from opposition leaders. AJSU Party representatives lashed out at the state government, questioning its commitment to women’s safety. AJSU Party leader Appu Tiwari said: “The government talks about empowering women, yet harassment is becoming rampant. Even victims seeking justice are humiliated and threatened,” he remarked.

Public Demands Accountability

As outrage grows, the focus remains on ensuring justice for the victim and holding both the accused and the responsible police officers accountable. The incident underscores the urgent need for systemic reforms to address such failures.
