CSIR-NML Hosts Training for SAIL on Mineral Processing

JAMSHEDPUR – The CSIR-National Metallurgical Laboratory (NML) inaugurated a comprehensive training programme for Steel Authority of India Ltd. (SAIL) officials, emphasizing advanced techniques in mineral processing and sustainable utilization.

The Mineral Characterization, Beneficiation, and Agglomeration (MCBA 2024) programme spans December 3–5, 2024. The opening session, held in NML’s Lecture Hall, was graced by dignitaries including Dr. Sandip Ghosh Chowdhury, Director, CSIR-NML, alongside other senior scientists.

The inaugural event began with a traditional lamp-lighting ceremony. Dr. Chowdhury introduced the attendees to the programme’s focus on low-grade and fine ore utilization, advocating for sustainable mineral practices. “The journey from lab experiments to pilot-scale operations is crucial for industrial advancements,” he stated.

Highlights of NML’s Contribution

Dr. Devabrata Mishra spotlighted NML’s Mineral Processing Division, encouraging participants to leverage the laboratory’s expertise for enhancing industrial solutions. Meanwhile, Dr. S. Sivaprasad shared insights into NML’s pioneering work in mineral beneficiation, reaffirming the institution’s commitment to fostering corporate skill development.

Dr. Sital Kumar Pal emphasized the importance of industrial collaborations and NML’s role in addressing complex challenges. He invited participants to see NML as a vital partner in their industrial ventures.

Programme Structure and Global Impact

The MCBA 2024 programme is designed to combine theoretical learning with practical application. Attendees will engage in expert-led lectures, laboratory demonstrations of advanced equipment, and hands-on training in mineral agglomeration.

Over decades, CSIR-NML has established itself as a leader in mineral beneficiation, contributing to both national and international projects. Its expertise spans ferrous, non-ferrous, and non-metallic minerals, as well as coal processing.
