E-Commerce Giants Face Scrutiny Over Anti-Competitive Practices

CCI Report Reveals Violations by Flipkart and Amazon, CAIT’s Suresh Sonthalia Demands Action

Key Points:

CCI report finds Flipkart and Amazon violating competition laws

• CAIT urges government intervention to protect domestic retailers

• Calls for suspension of upcoming festive sales by e-commerce giants

JAMSHEDPUR – The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) has labeled the Competition Commission of India’s (CCI) investigation report as a landmark case in global regulatory history.

The report accuses Flipkart and Amazon of openly violating anti-competition laws.

CAIT’s National Joint Secretary General, Suresh Sonthalia, has written to Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal.

He demands immediate intervention to safeguard domestic retailers.

Sonthalia calls for swift implementation of e-commerce rules under the Consumer Protection Act.

He also urges the introduction of a comprehensive e-commerce policy.

The CAIT official seeks immediate action against brands named in the CCI report.

He requests suspension of business for Amazon, Flipkart, and their colluding brands.

Sonthalia appeals for the halting of upcoming "festive sales" by these e-commerce platforms.

CAIT argues that these sales further harm domestic traders through anti-competitive practices.

The organization claims that Flipkart and Amazon’s strategies have weakened Prime Minister Modi’s vision.

CCI’s report implicates multiple entities, including Flipkart’s various divisions and 31 vendors.

Major mobile manufacturers like Xiaomi, Samsung, and Realme are also named for violations.

The report scrutinizes Walmart’s stake in Flipkart and its impact on the Indian retail market.

Similar findings were reported against Amazon’s various divisions and proxy sellers.
