JMM Presses Sarna Dharma Code Demand Ahead of PM’s Jamshedpur Visit

JMM reiterates the Sarna Dharma Code demand as PM Modi, President Murmu, and Amit Shah plan Jharkhand visits ahead of assembly polls.

Key Points:

– JMM demands Sarna Dharma Code ahead of high-profile visits to Jharkhand.

– PM Modi, President Murmu, and Amit Shah to visit Jharkhand in September.

– JMM criticizes BJP for ignoring tribal issues, calls for action during visits.

RANCHI – The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) has once again raised the demand for the inclusion of the Sarna Dharma Code as top leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, prepare to visit Jharkhand ahead of the upcoming assembly elections.

JMM general secretary and spokesperson Supriyo Bhattacharya addressed the media in Ranchi today, emphasizing that PM Modi’s visit to Jamshedpur on September 15 should include the announcement of the Sarna Dharma Code for tribals.

Bhattacharya noted that President Droupadi Murmu, who served as the state’s Governor, will also visit Jharkhand on September 19-20 for the golden jubilee celebrations of the Lac Production Center in Namkum. He suggested that her tenure as Governor included decisions that led to the BJP’s defeat in the 2019 state elections.

Amit Shah, the Union Home Minister, is scheduled to visit Jharkhand on September 21 and will hold meetings in the Santhal region. Bhattacharya commented on reports indicating that several BJP chief ministers and central ministers will join Shah in Jharkhand, suggesting that the entire Modi cabinet will be in the state until the elections.

He also took a swipe at former JMM leader Champai Soren, who recently joined the BJP. Bhattacharya remarked that Soren, known for advocating the Sarna Dharma Code, will have a unique opportunity to raise the issue while sharing the stage with PM Modi and Home Minister Shah during their visit.

Bhattacharya further stated that PM Modi is expected to announce a financial package of Rs 21,000 crores for Jharkhand during his visit. He added that the state is still awaiting the payment of Rs 1.36 lakh crore in outstanding dues.

“If the demands are not supported, the identity of the tribals and natives will be compromised,” Bhattacharya warned, urging the Prime Minister to respect the wishes of Jharkhand’s people.
