Cobra 209 Battalion’s SI Jitendra Dani sustained serious injuries in an IED blast planted by Maoist rebels in Baliba, West Singhbhum.
CHAIBASA – SI Jitendra Dani of Cobra 209 Battalion was critically injured in an IED explosion by Maoists in Baliba on Thursday morning.
The incident occurred at 7:30 AM in the Maoist-affected Chotanagara police station area of Baliba.
The injured sub-inspector received primary treatment before being airlifted to Ranchi for further care, where his condition is reported as stable.
Background and Ongoing Operations
The attack followed intelligence reports indicating that top leaders of the banned CPI Maoist group, including Misir Besra, Anal, Anmol, Ashwin, Pintu Lohra, Chandan Lohra, and Amit Hansda alias Upton, were active in the Saranda-Kolhan region.
In response, a joint operation was launched on August 7, 2024, in the forested areas bordering Chotanagara and Jaraikela police stations.
Maoist Attack
During the operation, Maoists detonated a pre-planted IED in the jungle hills near the forest village of Baliba, targeting security forces.
The explosion resulted in severe injuries to SI Dani of the Cobra 209 Battalion.
Emergency Response
The police headquarters in Ranchi and CRPF Jharkhand Sector swiftly coordinated to evacuate the injured officer by helicopter for advanced medical treatment in Ranchi.
Despite the incident, the anti-Maoist operation continues in the region.
