Congress Party Submits Memorandum to Halt NGT-Ordered Demolitions

Congress Demands Fair Action Against Demolition of Riverbank Homes in Jamshedpur

A Congress delegation led by Dr. Ajay Kumar submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner, seeking a halt to the NGT-ordered demolition of homes along the riverbanks in Jamshedpur.

JAMSHEDPUR – Acting on the instructions of former MP and senior Congress leader Dr. Ajay Kumar, a Congress delegation submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner on Tuesday, demanding a halt to the demolition of houses along the riverbanks as ordered by the National Green Tribunal (NGT).

The Deputy Commissioner assured the delegation that fair action would be taken.

City President Dharmendra Sonkar criticized the NGT’s action as one-sided and unjust.

He emphasized that the Congress party strongly opposes this move.

Sonkar pointed out the discrepancy, stating that luxurious apartments being constructed along the riverbanks escape the NGT’s notice, while makeshift homes built by poor daily wage laborers are targeted.

He declared that the Congress party would challenge the NGT’s order in an appropriate forum and ensure that no poor person’s home is demolished.

The NGT had ordered the demolition of around 150 homes along the riverbanks in Bhuiyandih, Kalyan Nagar, Indira Nagar, and Chhaya Nagar within the jurisdiction of the Sitaramdera police station.

This order has instilled fear among the residents.

The basis for the NGT’s order remains unclear, with officials unable to provide factual explanations.

The memorandum submission saw the presence of Ashok Chaudhary, Ravindra Jha alias Nattu Jha, Rakesh Sahu, and hundreds of local residents.
