National Medical Commission Orders Probe After Student Files Complaint
Five suspects identified as police and college authorities investigate allegations.
JAMSHEDPUR – A new ragging incident at MGM Medical College has prompted an investigation after a student filed a complaint with the National Medical Commission (NMC).
"NMC has directed the college Principal to submit a report and ensure the victim’s protection," a source familiar with the matter stated.
Patamda DSP Bachan Dev Kujur and MGM police station in-charge Ram Lal Mandal questioned students, identifying five suspects.
Sources said that an urgent Anti-Ragging Cell Committee meeting is scheduled for July 5 to discuss potential actions.
The victim reportedly submitted video evidence to NMC, despite damaged hostel CCTV cameras.
"Junior students have complained of a hostile atmosphere, including alcohol consumption and intimidation," a source revealed.
Accusations include harassment and coerced substance use by senior students.
Previous ragging incidents at the college resulted in fines and disciplinary actions against offenders.
The Anti-Ragging Cell Committee may impose strict penalties, including legal action or fines exceeding Rs 25,000.
This case highlights ongoing concerns about ragging in medical institutions and the need for stringent preventive measures.
