Cremation Services Disrupted as Workers Demand Permanent Positions and Fair Compensation
Employees at the Bhuiandih Swarnarekha Burning Ghat in Jamshedpur’s Sitaramdera police station area staged a strike on Monday, demanding permanent job status, minimum wage, provident fund (PF), and other essential benefits, leading to a temporary halt in cremation services.
JAMSHEDPUR – The Bhuiandih Swarnarekha Burning Ghat in the Sitaramdera police station area witnessed a disruption in funeral services on Monday morning as employees went on strike, demanding job security and fair compensation.
The strike, which lasted until noon, forced many people to seek alternative arrangements at the Bistupur Parvati Ghat, while others waited for a resolution.
The aggrieved employees, who were denied their rightful payment of Rs 1,500, called for permanent job positions, a minimum salary, provident fund (PF) contributions, and other essential benefits.
BJP leader Pawan Aggarwal arrived at the scene to support the striking employees and facilitate a dialogue with the authorities.
The Sitaramdera police station in-charge also intervened, leading to a partial resolution where the employees received their pending payment of Rs 1,500.
Further discussions have been scheduled after three days to address the remaining demands put forth by the employees.
Following the initial talks and the disbursement of the withheld payment, the employees resumed their duties, allowing the cremation services to recommence.
The strike at the Bhuiandih Swarnarekha Burning Ghat highlights the plight of workers who are often denied basic job security and fair compensation for their services.
The intervention of political leaders and law enforcement officials played a crucial role in facilitating a dialogue between the employees and the management, paving the way for a potential resolution.
