I May Be on ED’s Target, But I will Continue to Speak out: Supriyo Bhattacharya

Supriyo Clarifies on WhatsApp Chat Controversy, Calls BJP’s Accusations Baseless

Supriyo Bhattacharya, the General Secretary of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), has claimed that he is on the Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) radar, with a senior ED officer allegedly instructing him to remain silent.

RANCHI – The controversy surrounding the alleged WhatsApp chat between Supriyo Bhattacharya and Antu Tirkey, a JMM leader arrested by the ED in connection with a land scam, has ignited a political firestorm, with the BJP launching attacks on Bhattacharya.

Bhattacharya, however, has sought clarity on the matter, urging against attempts to tarnish his reputation without proper investigation.

Describing himself as both a social worker and a political figure, Bhattacharya reiterated his earlier apprehensions about being targeted by the ED.

He revealed that a senior ED official had recently advised him to keep his mouth shut, hinting at the mounting pressure he faces.

Bhattacharya dismissed the BJP’s allegations as baseless, pointing out that the chat in question dates back to 2021 and called for verification of whether the officer involved was transferred during that period.

Amidst the swirling allegations, Bhattacharya maintained that while he may commit mistakes, he is not a traitor.

He acknowledged the timing of the controversy, coinciding with the election season, and accused the BJP of attempting to portray him as a thief to the public.

Undeterred by the prospect of imprisonment, Bhattacharya declared his readiness to go to Hotwar jail, asserting that even from behind bars, he would continue to raise his voice by sending press releases through the Jail Superintendent.

Anticipating a possible ED notice, Bhattacharya expressed his determination to face the consequences head-on, stating that he would carry his bag to the ED office if summoned.
