XLRI Jamshedpur confers degrees to 551 students at 68th Convocation

Tata Sons Chairman N Chandrasekaran receives Sir Jehangir Ghandy Medal, lays foundation for new hostel

Xavier School of Management, Jamshedpur, celebrated its 68th Annual Convocation on March 23, 2024, with 551 students receiving their degrees across various programs. The prestigious Sir Jehangir Ghandy Medal for Industrial and Social Peace was conferred upon N Chandrasekaran, Chairman of Tata Sons, in recognition of his exemplary leadership and commitment to society and the nation.

JAMSHEDPUR – The convocation ceremony, marking the culmination of the students’ academic journey, commenced with the Academic Procession, followed by the Director’s report and the Chairman’s address.

Fr S George S.J., Director of XLRI Jamshedpur, expressed his gratitude to the Chief Guest, N Chandrasekaran, and fondly remembered Late Dr. Ashis K Pani, Former Dean (Academics), for his 25 years of dedicated service to the institution.

In his acceptance speech, Chandrasekaran highlighted the Tata Group’s priorities, which include simplification, synergy, sustainability, supply chain transformation, and digital transformations.

He advised the graduates to embody three key traits for a successful career: a positive attitude, a winning mindset, and the ability to work hard. "The next generation of leaders is you. India awaits your contribution in the form of the story you will create," he said, congratulating the students.

Medals and honors

The convocation also saw the presentation of Medals for Long Service to 12 XLRI employees and Medals for Academic Excellence to 14 deserving students. Additionally, four faculty members were honored for their research papers published in the prestigious A* Category.

Foundation stone for new hostel laid

N Chandrasekaran, along with XLRI officials, laid the foundation stone for the new student hostel on the day of the 68th Annual Convocation. This follows the earlier foundation stone laying ceremony for the new Research Scholar’s Residence by Vice-President of India, Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar, on December 10, 2023.

Launch of "Akeera" student club

As part of its commitment to supporting students’ mental well-being, XLRI introduced "Akeera," a student club focusing on peer support, mental health awareness, and emotional well-being practices. The club hosted its first event, "High Fives and Farewells," on March 22, 2024, to bid farewell to senior students and celebrate togetherness within the community.
