Cultural Enlightenment: Odissi Dance Enthralls at Karim City College

Karim City College’s Department of Mass Communication, in collaboration with SPIC MACAY, showcased an enchanting Odissi dance performance by Janhabi Behera.

JAMSHEDPUR – Karim City College recently became a focal point for cultural vibrancy, hosting an enriching lecture-cum-demonstration on Odissi classical dance.

The event, a collaboration with SPIC MACAY, was illuminated by the renowned Odissi dancer Janhabi Behera’s presence, who brought the college auditorium to life with her artistry.

Janhabi Behera, alongside her talented accompanists Harpriya Swain, Soumya Ranjan, and Ashish Kumar, delivered a performance that seamlessly blended storytelling with dance, including pieces dedicated to Lord Jagannath, the narrative of Sita’s abduction, and the expressive Panchatattva.

The event kicked off with the traditional lighting of the lamp, a symbol of knowledge and artistic enlightenment, attended by dignitaries like Dr. Mohammed Zakaria, Dr. BN Tripathi, Professor Dr. Neha Tiwari, Bharti Banerjee, and Janhabi Behera herself.

Behera engaged the audience with an insightful introduction to Odissi dance, its historical context, and its expressive potential, encouraging student participation.

Dr. Zakaria and Dr. BN Tripathi emphasized the significance of dance as a profound form of expression and the importance of preserving India’s classical and folk dance heritage.

The commitment of Karim City College to the arts was applauded by Bhartiya Banerjee, with Principal Dr. Mohammad Riaz lauding the Mass Communication Department for organizing the successful event.

The program saw enthusiastic participation from students across departments and was praised for fostering a deeper appreciation for cultural traditions.

The Mass Communication Department, led by Dr. Neha Tiwari, expressed gratitude towards SPIC MACAY and the contributors to the event’s success, hoping for future collaborations to continue enriching the college’s cultural landscape.
