Prem Prakash’s Petition Rejected, ED’s Evidence Found Substantial
The Jharkhand High Court’s recent dismissal of Prem Prakash’s discharge petition marks a pivotal moment in the ongoing money laundering case.
RANCHI – In a significant legal development, the Jharkhand High Court has rejected the discharge petition of Prem Prakash.
This decision comes after the Enforcement Directorate (ED) presented compelling evidence of his involvement in illegal mining in Sahibganj and related money laundering activities.
The High Court, led by Justice Sanjay Kumar Dwivedi, found that the ED’s prima facie evidence sufficiently linked Prem Prakash to the proceeds of crime.
Prem Prakash’s inability to justify the substantial monetary inflows into his accounts further weakened his case.
This rejection enables the continuation of the trial against him under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), as charges have already been framed by the Special Court in Ranchi.
Prem Prakash, who is also embroiled in a separate land scam money laundering case, had challenged the framing of these charges, leading to the recent High Court hearing.
Arrested last year, Prem Prakash has remained in judicial custody, where shockingly, the ED has found that he continues to wield influence.
