Odisha Sanctions ₹84K Crore Industrial Projects, Boosts Job Creation

Tata Steel’s ₹10,351 Crore Dhenkanal Project Among Odisha’s Major Approvals

Odisha government’s approval of 12 industrial projects, including Tata Steel’s ₹10,351 crore Dhenkanal project, marks a significant stride in the state’s industrialization.

DESK – In a major industrial boost, Odisha government has approved Tata Steel’s 6.5 MTPA capacity hot and cold rolled coil mill project in Dhenkanal, valued at ₹10,351.11 crore.

This approval is part of a larger initiative, with the state clearing numerous substantial projects.

Experts are recognizing this move as the beginning of a new industrial era in Odisha, potentially positioning it among India’s most industrialized states.

The High-Level Clearance Authority (HLCA) led by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik sanctioned 12 industrial projects worth ₹84,918.75 crore, estimated to create 42,281 jobs.

These projects, spanning diverse sectors like green ammonia, hydrogen, and methanol, reflect Odisha’s commitment to sustainable industrial growth.

Orissa Metallurgical Industry Pvt Ltd received approval for a significant investment of ₹5,200 crore in Jharsuguda, covering an integrated steel factory, a power plant, and a cement grinding unit.

Locations including Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, and Sundargarh will house these projects.

In renewable energy, Welspun New Energy Ltd and Sembcorp Green Hydrogen India Pvt Ltd gained approvals for green ammonia plants, while REFPL will develop green hydrogen and methanol facilities.

ReNew E-Fuels plans to invest ₹19,000 crore in two units, offering substantial employment opportunities.

Welspun Group’s additional projects include a ₹3,137 crore investment in Sambalpur and a ₹3,050 crore integrated textile and logistics facility in Choudwar.

Other significant approvals include NTPC Ltd.’s super thermal power plant in Sundargarh and BMW Industries Ltd.’s facility in Kalinganagar.

Ind Barath Energy Utkal Ltd. and Aegis Vopak are set to invest in Jharsuguda and Gopalpur, respectively, for a coal-fired thermal power plant and a liquid ammonia storage facility.
