Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik Inaugurates New Naval Tata Hockey Centre

Odisha’s Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik unveils the state-of-the-art Naval Tata Hockey High Performance Centre at Bhubaneswar’s Kalinga Stadium.

JAMSHEDPUR – Odisha’s Chief Minister, Hon. Naveen Patnaik, unveiled the newly built Naval Tata Hockey High Performance Centre (ONTHPC) at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar. This state-of-the-art facility includes modern amenities such as a gym, classrooms, a cafeteria, a physiotherapy centre, offices, among other facilities.

Numerous dignitaries were present at the event, including Chanakya Chaudhary, Vice President, Corporate Services, Tata Steel; Debashis Jena; and Chie. Also present were Shri Tusharkanti Behera, Hon’ble Minister, Electronics & Information Technology, Sports & Youth Services, Government of Odisha; Shri V. K. Pandian, IAS, Private Secretary to CM & Secretary to CM-Transformational Initiatives (5T); along with Shri R Vineel Krishna, Hockey India’s Executive Director, Cdr. R K Srivastav, and Secretary General, Shri Bholanath Singh.

Chanakya Chaudhary expressed Tata Steel’s pleasure at partnering with the Odisha Naval Tata Hockey High Performance Centre. He emphasized the significance of the Centre, which has already started yielding positive results, with proud cadets like Jyoti Chattri, a member of the senior International Women’s squad, and five others who recently made their junior International debut.

Currently, the Centre, which has been generously supported by the Government of Odisha, houses ninety cadets from state and national talent pools. These cadets, split evenly between boys and girls, are given world-class training and facilities.

The HPC not only serves as a high-performance training facility but also manages grassroots hockey programs in 9 Odisha districts, operating 25 active grassroots facilities, including 20 run by the state government.

The ONTHPC was launched on August 13, 2019, by Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri Naveen Patnaik, T V Narendran, Managing Director and CEO, Tata Steel, and other dignitaries. It was a collaborative effort between the Government of Odisha, Tata Steel, and Tata Trust.
