Rising Suicide Rates: Jamshedpur Emerges as Jharkhand’s Suicide Capital

The city of Jamshedpur has seen an alarming rise in suicide rates, leading it to be dubbed as Jharkhand’s ‘Suicide Capital’.

Jamshedpur – With a significant rise in suicide incidents, Jamshedpur has earned a grim reputation as the suicide capital of Jharkhand.

In the span of just two days, eight lives were lost to suicide, with seven victims hanging themselves and one person succumbing to poison.

Roshan Kumar, a 21-year-old resident of Mango Gaur Basti and a student at Jamshedpur Workers College, was among those who took their own lives on Wednesday night.

Vishal Murmu, 30, from Haludbani, Bodam, also hanged himself late on Wednesday night, while Manju Devi, 46, of Bagbeda Ranidih, took her own life in her home on Wednesday afternoon.

The list also includes Poonam Chaudhary, a 39-year-old resident of Kitadih in Parsudih, who was found by her husband Deepak, an auto driver, hanged in their home on Thursday morning.

Manish Kumar Singh, 32, from Kadma Ramjanam Nagar, and Sanjay, a 55-year-old resident of Sidhgora who was suffering from depression after losing his job, both committed suicide by hanging.

In Adityapur, a 17-year-old named Divyansh also hanged himself, and Richa Kumar, a 16-year-old from Adityapur Ashiana Mode, died on Thursday after ingesting poison and being rushed to Sadar Hospital.
