Manipur-Like Unrest Might Erupt in Other States Too, Warns Salkhan Murmu

Salkhan Murmu, National President of Adivasi Sengel Abhiyan, warns of Manipur-like violence erupting in other states too due to the politics of violence and greed.

JAMSHEDPUR – Salkhan Murmu, the National President of Adivasi Sengel Abhiyan and former MP, has raised concerns that the wave of unrest as seen in Manipur could potentially erupt in other Indian states too.

This may happen if the politics of greed and manipulation continue to promote a culture of vote banking, he said.

Murmu suggests that as long as true tribal groups, already included in the Scheduled Tribe (ST) list, are faced with a potential unjust scenario, it will be challenging to establish a lasting peace.

The fear of injustice is fueled by the practice of enticing upper-caste individuals with reservation benefits to enhance the vote bank.

Sengel has proposed a solution to prevent this potential widespread violence.

He recommends that a policy should be immediately declared, stating that no new caste will be included in the ST list for the next 30 years.

Murmu expressed these concerns during a weekly Sengel prayer meeting organized in Karandih.

On another note, Murmu compared the current situation in Jharkhand to the emergency era under Indira Gandhi in 1975, stating that Shibu Soren and Hemant Soren have imposed a similar situation against tribals in the state.

He informed the meeting that preparations for the upcoming Vishwa Sarna Dharma Code public meeting, scheduled for June 30 in Kolkata, are complete.

The meeting was attended by various leaders including Sonaram Soren, Bimo Murmu, Sumitra Murmu, Birsa Murmu, and Tilka Murmu, and leaders from five different states also participated in the special Sengel Core Committee meeting via Zoom. Sengel Majhi Arjun Murmu presided over the meeting.

Salkhan Murmu, National President of Adivasi Sengel Abhiyan, warns of Manipur-like violence spreading to other states due to the politics of violence and greed.
