Young Woman Commits Suicide After Lover Refuses Marriage in Jamshedpur

21-year-old woman tragically commits suicide by jumping into Swarnarekha river in Jamshedpur after her lover refuses marriage and family allegedly demands dowry.

JAMSHEDPUR – A tragic incident unfolded in Jamshedpur when 21-year-old K Kumari, a resident of Bagunhatu Sukha Talab under Sidhgora police station, allegedly committed suicide by jumping into the Swarnarekha river on Tuesday afternoon.

The suicide occurred after her lover, V Dutta, allegedly refused to marry her.

On Wednesday, K Kumari’s body was discovered in the river, 200 meters from the spot she jumped.

Local residents informed the police, who arrived at the scene to retrieve the body and took V Dutta into custody.

K Kumari, the eldest of four siblings, worked at a clothing shop in Sakchi.

Her mother, U Devi, revealed that she had been in a relationship with V Dutta for three years. However, six months ago, after learning about their relationship, the couple was forbidden to meet.

K Kumari was also two months pregnant, and V Dutta’s family had allegedly demanded dowry for the marriage, she said.

On Tuesday, K Kumari visited V Dutta’s house, where his family members allegedly argued with her and refused to let them marry.

Distraught by the situation, K Kumari, allegedly took the drastic step of jumping into the river, the family said.
