Desk: Even while Congress is trying to make light of the candidature of Draupadi Murmu for the upcoming presidential elections by underplaying her achievements and highlighting her roots in BJP, its own ally in Jharkhand JMM has decided to go the other way and support NDA candidate.
Jharkhand Mukti Morcha today formally announced its support for Draupadi Murmu in the presidential poll on July 18th.
Draupadi Murmu’s candidature had put JMM into a big dilemma. Being from the Santhal tribe, she is all set to be the first tribal president of India and JMM would hardly afford to be seen opposing her candidature.
Besides, Hemant Soren and other leaders of JMM have always been very respectful towards her, especially due to her highly portly conduct as the Governor of Jharkhand.
In the letter announcing JMM’s support, the party said that her candidature for the President’s post is a proud moment for the tribals since independence.
