Covid-19 second wave receding rapidly: Dr. Rajan Chaudhry

Jamshedpur: 6 patients have succumbed to post-covid Mucormycosis (black fungus) till date in TMH. In all, 12 patients of Mucormycosis have been admitted in TMH for treatment. 3 are still under treatment, while 3 other patients have got themselves discharged.

The former GM of Tata Steel Medical Services and Advisor to TMH Dr. Rajan Chaudhry while speaking to the media today said that there are sufficient medicines and injections available with the hospital for treating Black Fungus. He said that treatment is possible and it is being done in the hospital.

Dr. Chaudhry said that till date 22 thousand persons tested positive in tests conducted by TMH. Out of these, 110 were children.

Dr. Chaudhry also said that till date 1,076 patients have died in TMH due to corona complications. This includes a child, who had a number of co-morbidities.

He said that the number of positive cases is coming down fast and things are improving slowly. However, he stressed the need to continue complying with covid social distancing norms.

Dr. Chaudhry said that the positivity rate on May 23 was 17.13% on May 23, while on May 30, it came down to 9.17%. The recovery rate for TMH has now gone up to 83.22% and during the last one week only 8 patients have succumbed to covid.

He said that the availability of beds is okay and beds are available even in CCU, ICU and HDU. 18 CCU beds have been turned into non-covid beds and are being utilised for other patients too.

TMH Clinical and OPD services too are being restored slowly. 6 clinics are already running with 1 doctor each. Sonari, Bistupur South Park and Sidhgora dispensaries have been re-started, while Sakchi, Kadma and Baridih clinics too are functioning.

He said that OPD services would be restored and expanded slowly.
