Mass drug administration targets 85% of the population in filariasis campaign
A comprehensive Filariasis eradication campaign runs from February 10 to 25, aiming to significantly reduce the disease’s prevalence in the district.
JAMSHEDPUR – In a concerted effort to combat Filariasis, the district has embarked on an aggressive eradication campaign, as per state government directives, running from February 10th to the 25th.
Under the leadership of District Magistrate cum Deputy Commissioner Mr. Manjunath Bhajantri, the campaign has successfully administered DEC and Albendazole medications to 3,93,663 individuals to prevent Filariasis.
The Deputy Development Commissioner, Mr. Manish Kumar, encouraged girl students at Kasturba Gandhi Vidyalaya Jugsalai to participate actively in the campaign by taking the prescribed medication.
Mr. Bhajantri, setting an example, also took the medicine with his family, reinforcing the importance of community participation in this health initiative.
Excluding children under 2, pregnant women, and those with serious illnesses, the campaign targets 85% of the district’s population, emphasizing the crucial role of Albendazole in combating malnutrition.
Health workers distributed medicines door-to-door, with the campaign reaching nearly every corner of the district, except Baharagora and Chakulia.
The program, under the vigilant supervision of Anganwadi Sevikas and Sahiyas from the Health Department, aims to ensure wide-reaching coverage.
To support this ambitious drive, 4,339 drug administrators and 254 supervisors received training, highlighting the district’s commitment to eradicating Filariasis and enhancing public health.
