JAMSHEDPUR – A grand religious procession was taken out in the city on the eve of Janmashtami, drawing hundreds of enthusiastic devotees who chanted hymns in honor of Lord Krishna.
The Jamshedpur shobha yatra moved through several routes across the city, with devotees joining in bhajan-kirtan sessions along the way. Religious tableaux depicting episodes from Lord Krishna’s life proved to be a major draw for onlookers.
However, local residents came out to welcome the devotees at multiple points along the procession route. The gathering included women, men and young people, and organizers noted a particularly large turnout of children.
Meanwhile, organizers said devotees have shown exceptional enthusiasm ahead of Janmashtami this year, which prompted the procession. Janmashtami marks the birth anniversary of Lord Krishna and is among the most widely celebrated festivals across India, traditionally observed through fasting, midnight prayers and cultural performances.
Besides the shobha yatra, several temples across the city have prepared elaborate celebrations for the festival this year. The Sidgora Surya Mandir is hosting Janmashtami events from September 2 to 4.
In addition, the Suryadham temple festival is separately featuring Bal Radha Krishna and group dance competitions during the same period.
Moreover, religious processions have become a regular feature of festival celebrations in the city, similar to the recent Eid Milad-un-Nabi procession and the bhajan sandhya held last month.
The procession concluded peacefully, organizers said, with the devotional atmosphere continuing into the evening.
