ADITYAPUR – Waterlogging inside the Asangi Odia Middle School campus in Ward 25 of the Adityapur Municipal Corporation area has worsened following continuous rainfall, causing hardship for students and teachers. Water has accumulated in the school compound and its main playground, making movement in and out of the premises difficult.
Somdev Pradhan, alias Vivky, district vice-president of the Jharkhand Yuva Morcha in Seraikela-Kharsawan, submitted an application to the municipal commissioner of the Adityapur Municipal Corporation seeking a resolution to the problem. The application stated that rainwater has been collecting in the school premises and nearby roads due to the absence of a proper drainage system.
The stagnant, dirty water has also led to a rise in mosquito breeding, raising concerns over its potential impact on the health of students and teachers, according to the application. It flagged the risk of diseases such as dengue and malaria spreading as a result of the accumulated water.
Pradhan urged the municipal administration to arrange a proper and permanent drainage solution at the earliest, citing the need to safeguard student health and ensure the smooth functioning of the school. A copy of the application has also been submitted to the deputy commissioner of Seraikela-Kharsawan.
The complaint comes amid a broader pattern of drainage-related problems reported across the Kolhan region this monsoon, with waterlogging earlier exposing drainage failures in Jamshedpur and heavy rain having disrupted commuter routes in the district. Similar concerns had also surfaced in other parts of the city after earlier spells of heavy downpour.
