Angry Villagers Block Toll Plaza for Over Two Hours After Fatal Crash

RANCHI – Two young men lost their lives in a devastating accident near the Bundu overbridge in Ranchi district. The crash occurred when a speeding truck coming from the direction of Jamshedpur first collided violently with another vehicle.
The truck then went out of control and ploughed into Dilip Munda and Amit Sahu, who were standing nearby. The impact of the collision was so severe that Munda died at the spot.
Sahu, meanwhile, suffered critical injuries in the crash. He was being taken for treatment to Ranchi‘s RIMS hospital, but he died on the way.
Following the accident, the truck driver attempted to flee the scene with the vehicle. However, he was caught near the toll plaza before he could escape further.
Bundu police reached the spot as soon as they were informed and seized the truck. Officers have since taken the vehicle into custody for investigation.
Enraged by the deaths of the two men, villagers blocked the toll plaza around nine o’clock at night. Traffic movement on the road was disrupted as a result of the blockade, echoing an earlier tanker collision on NH-33 near Chandil that also disrupted traffic this month.
Officials who arrived at the scene held talks with the agitated villagers. After a prolonged discussion, an agreement was reached and the villagers lifted the blockade around half past eleven at night.
Police have currently taken possession of the truck and are investigating the case in full. Similar fatal road accidents have been reported elsewhere in the state recently, including a bike accident in Golmuri and a bike-minibus collision in Ramgarh that also left two youths dead.
A separate accident earlier this month saw a container overturn onto an auto-rickshaw in Latehar, killing six people. Bundu, the site of Saturday’s crash, has also seen unrelated incidents in the past, including a fire that gutted a chicken shop in the town.
Omprakash, DSP of Bundu, confirmed the details of the case to reporters.
