JAMSHEDPUR – Schoolgirls tied rakhis to Senior Superintendent of Police, East Singhbhum, Dr Ehtesham Waqarib, at his office chamber on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan on Thursday.
The students tied the sacred thread on the officer’s wrist as a mark of respect, warmth and affection. Through the gesture, they also conveyed wishes tied to the festival’s symbolism of trust and sibling-like bonding.
Besides tying the rakhis, the girls praised the police administration’s efforts to maintain security, peace and a harmonious atmosphere in society. They said the initiatives undertaken by the department had strengthened their sense of safety.
In response, Dr Waqarib extended Raksha Bandhan greetings to the students. He said the festival was not merely a celebration but an occasion to reinforce mutual trust, security, respect and a sense of social responsibility.
Moreover, the SSP urged the students to move forward fearlessly, perform well in their studies and work toward building a bright future for themselves. He encouraged them to continue excelling in the field of education.
On the occasion, the officer presented blessings and gifts to the visiting students. He also wished them a safe, secure and successful future ahead.
The gesture in Jamshedpur came during a month when several community events centred on women and students have been held across the district. Similar Sawan-season gatherings involving women have taken place recently, including a Sawan festival in Sakchi and a Sawan Mahotsav at Baridih park.
However, the rakhi gesture at the SSP’s office was distinct in bringing students directly into contact with the district’s top police officer. Community-linked festivities involving women’s groups, such as one organized by the Bhumihar Mahila Samaj, have also been reported through the month.
Meanwhile, the district police have been active on other fronts as well. Officials recently said they had busted a theft gang operating in the city. Separately, the district administration has issued directions on the ongoing voter list revision exercise at polling stations, and the deputy commissioner has issued instructions on a complete ban on animal cruelty practices such as cockfighting.
