JAMSHEDPUR – The Bhumihar Mahila Samaj, Jharkhand organised the Haritima Sawan Mahotsav on Sunday. The event was held at Brahmarshi Bhawan in Kadma.
More than 250 women from the organisation took part in the festival. Executive committee members of the Jharkhand unit also joined the celebrations enthusiastically.
The programme began with lamp lighting and floral tributes to Swami Sahajanand Saraswati’s statue. A Ganesh Vandana followed shortly after the opening rituals.
Following the welcome of guests, founder Anu Singh addressed the gathering. She spoke about various social initiatives being run by the organisation for women’s welfare.
She said the samaj currently runs several programmes, including an employment initiative called “Rozgar Ek Prayas.” Besides that, the group conducts tree plantation drives and distributes study material to underprivileged students.
Other initiatives mentioned included Besra, Pankh Mahila Haat, and a literacy campaign named Shikshit Samaj. Singh added that health camps have also been organised as part of the group’s ongoing work.
She further said another health camp would be organised again in the coming months. Meanwhile, a colourful cultural programme was arranged for women during the festival.
The event featured dance and music performances through the afternoon. A best green attire competition and a Sawan Queen contest were also held alongside several games.
Women participated enthusiastically in the various Sawan-themed games organised during the event. Winners and participants of the competitions were later honoured with gifts.
Performances of Sawan songs, dance and music kept the atmosphere festive throughout. The event concluded with a community meal, followed by felicitation of media members and a formal vote of thanks.
Executive committee members of the Bhumihar Mahila Samaj, Jharkhand played a key role in organising the event. Several other Sawan-related festivities have been held across Kadma and neighbouring localities this month.
Independence Day celebrations were also held at educational institutions nearby around the same period. Students at CP Samiti Middle School were honoured during their own celebrations.
Similar festive gatherings were organised elsewhere in the city during Sawan this month. A separate Sawan celebration was held by the same organisation earlier as part of its broader outreach.
Cultural activities have also continued in institutional settings across the district. A patriotic cultural event was recently held at DAV Public School, marking the 79th Independence Day.
