Key Points:
- Over 5,000 devotees take part in kalash yatra from Baridih
- Former CM Raghubar Das walks five kilometres with devotees
- Jalabhishek performed at Surya Mandir’s Shivalaya on third Sawan Monday
JAMSHEDPUR – A grand kalash yatra was taken out from Sidgora Surya Mandir on Monday to mark the third Monday of the holy month of Sawan. More than 5,000 devotees, both men and women, joined the procession.
The yatra began at Hari Mandir Maidan in Baridih. Former Jharkhand chief minister Raghubar Das also took part in the event.
He walked nearly five kilometres alongside devotees to reach the Surya Mandir. Meanwhile, the entire area echoed with chants dedicated to Lord Shiva throughout the procession.
An elaborate tableau of Lord Shiva was also taken out during the yatra. Devotees carried kalash vessels filled with water as they walked toward the temple.
They reached the Surya Mandir with deep devotion, where jalabhishek was performed at the Shivalaya. Raghubar Das too walked the full distance and performed jalabhishek at the temple.
He said a grand kalash yatra has been organised every year on the third Sawan Monday. “A large number of devotees are performing jalabhishek of Lord Bholenath,” Das said, describing the scale of participation this year.
The former chief minister added that he prayed for the fulfilment of devotees’ wishes. He also wished for happiness, peace and prosperity in every household.
Das further expressed hope for Jharkhand’s development and the wellbeing of its people. Throughout the yatra, the entire area remained immersed in devotion, with chants of “Har Har Mahadev” filling the atmosphere.
The event forms part of a wider wave of Sawan observances across the region this month. Elsewhere, thousands of devotees had gathered for jalabhishek rituals at Shiva temples across Kolhan ahead of the third Monday.
Preparations for the procession had been finalised in advance by temple authorities. The Sidgora Surya Mandir panel had confirmed arrangements for the yatra earlier this month.
A similar gathering was reported during the second Sawan Monday as well. Devotional fervour had swept across Jamshedpur during that earlier observance.
Raghubar Das has also taken part in other religious and civic events in the city recently. He earlier hoisted the national flag at the Surya Mandir on Independence Day.
Kanwariyas from the region have also been active during the ongoing Sawan month. A group recently performed jalabhishek at Mahadevshal in Chakradharpur as part of similar observances.
