Former CM Calls for a Developed India by 100th Independence Day

JAMSHEDPUR – The country marked the 79th anniversary of independence on Saturday, with celebrations held across Jamshedpur to mark the occasion. Former Jharkhand chief minister Raghubar Das hoisted the national flag at the Surya Mandir premises in Sidgora.
Hundreds of schoolchildren from the locality attended the ceremony. Party leaders and workers were also present at the venue.
All those gathered offered a salute to the national flag. The programme formed one of several such observances held across the city on Saturday.
Das said countless people had sacrificed their lives for the country’s freedom. He said it was because of these figures that citizens today were able to live in independence.
He added that the country was moving toward development under the leadership of the prime minister. The former chief minister said the nation should resolve to become a developed country by the time of its 100th Independence Day.
Das also extended greetings to people across Jharkhand and the rest of the country on the occasion. Similar flag-hoisting events were held elsewhere in the city, including at Sidgora Town Hall, where schoolchildren had presented cultural performances on the eve of the day.
Earlier in the week, the city had witnessed a tricolour rally as part of the run-up to the celebrations. Meanwhile, Jharkhand’s governor hoisted the flag in Dumka district, invoking the government’s Viksit Bharat 2047 resolve.
Raghubar Das has been active on the political front in recent days. He had earlier criticised police action against NDA leaders during the student protests, calling it an attack on democracy.
Several film and sports personalities also extended Independence Day wishes on social media through the day.
