JAMSHEDPUR – Bistupur traffic police station has launched a special drive against two-wheelers fitted with modified silencers in an effort to curb rising noise pollution in the city. Eight such vehicles have been penalised so far under the campaign.
Traffic police officials said the loud, harsh noise emitted by modified silencers not only adds to noise pollution but also causes distress to residents, the elderly, patients and students. Vehicles are being checked across various parts of the city as part of the drive, with action taken against those found violating the norms.
Police have appealed to riders to use only the standard silencers specified by vehicle manufacturers on their two-wheelers. Officials clarified that the campaign against modified silencers would continue on an ongoing basis, with legal action to follow against violators.
The traffic police said the objective of the drive is to improve traffic management in the city and establish effective control over noise pollution. Officers are expected to expand checks to additional localities in the coming days.
The campaign adds to a broader push by Jamshedpur police to address civic and road safety concerns, which has recently included efforts to fix poor roads exposed by rain that have raised accident risks across the city.
