Rail Accident Victim Undergoes Treatment At MGM Hospital

JAMSHEDPUR – A 22-year-old man was critically injured after a goods train hit him while he was crossing a railway track under RIT police station limits early Monday.
The incident occurred near Krishnapur Raharagora at around 1 am. Local residents reportedly heard the commotion and alerted authorities soon after.
RIT police and a team of the Railway Protection Force reached the spot immediately after receiving information about the mishap. The injured man was rushed to MGM Hospital for emergency treatment.
He was identified as Akash Kumar Thakur, a resident of Ranchi and son of Gopal Thakur. Thakur works as a tiles mason at the NIT Jamshedpur campus.
Doctors said the young man suffered severe injuries to his right leg and near his shoulder. His condition remained critical at the time of reporting.
However, the exact circumstances that led to him being on the track late at night were not immediately clear. Meanwhile, RIT police have registered a case and begun an investigation into the accident.
Railway crossing accidents have been a recurring concern in the industrial belt around Jamshedpur. Besides pedestrian movement, unauthorised track crossings near residential clusters have previously led to fatal and near-fatal mishaps in the region.
The local police are examining CCTV footage and speaking to witnesses to establish the sequence of events. Officials from the Jamshedpur police administration have not yet commented on the matter.
A hospital source said the victim’s condition would be monitored closely over the next 48 hours. Further details are awaited as the investigation progresses.
The stretch near Tatanagar railway station has witnessed similar accidents in the past involving pedestrians crossing tracks. Authorities have periodically urged residents to use designated crossings instead of walking directly across the rail lines.
