CID Raid Hits Ex-JPSC Chairman Khyangte Amid Exam Scandal

RANCHI – A team from the Criminal Investigation Department searched the residence of L. Khyangte, the outgoing chairman of the Jharkhand Public Service Commission, on Thursday. The raid took place at his home on Ranchi’s Kanke Road.
Khyangte previously served as the state’s chief secretary before heading the commission. The action comes amid a growing controversy over alleged irregularities in the JPSC’s 14th Civil Service Examination.
Officers from the CID worked alongside local police during the search. Investigators combed through documents connected to the disputed examination process.
Neither the CID nor the police have issued any official statement about what, if anything, was recovered during the operation. Authorities have not disclosed further details of the ongoing inquiry.
The development follows closely on the heels of another significant decision by the commission. On July 22, the JPSC postponed its Jharkhand Combined Civil Services Main Written Competitive Examination-2025.
Additionally, the commission suspended the remaining schedule listed under its Examination Calendar-2026. That calendar, published on the JPSC website, had set a Proposed Exam Schedule Date of July 9, 2026.
All further examinations under that calendar now remain postponed until additional orders are issued. The commission has not announced a revised timeline for the affected tests.
Investigating agencies in the state have stepped up scrutiny of commission-linked matters in recent months. A recent probe also saw the Enforcement Directorate summon officials over separate allegations.
The commission’s exam calendar disruptions have added to broader concerns about administrative processes in the state. Discussions around the state’s annual budget earlier this year had also touched on governance and institutional reforms.
Meanwhile, other public sector bodies in Jharkhand have faced separate operational troubles this year. The Heavy Engineering Corporation encountered a financial crunch that drew attention to broader institutional strains.
Candidates preparing for other competitive examinations have meanwhile continued to track their own schedules. The response sheet release process for a separate national entrance test proceeded on its usual calendar this year.
For now, aspirants awaiting the JPSC’s rescheduled examination dates remain in limbo. The commission has given no indication of when a fresh notification might follow.
