Key Points:
- Family Agrees To Perform Last Rites After Assurance
- State Government To Decide On Job For Widow
- Section 144 Imposed In Seven Police Station Areas
JAMSHEDPUR – The days-long deadlock over the cremation of Karni Sena leader Himanshu Singh ended on Wednesday evening after the district administration gave the family a written assurance.
Family members had been protesting for several days over Singh’s killing. The murder followed a dispute at the DD Bar in Bistupur.
However, an agreement was reached between the administration and the family late on Wednesday. Relatives subsequently agreed to go ahead with the last rites.
The administration assured the family that it would recommend a government job for Singh’s widow. It said the final decision on the appointment rests with the state government.
In addition, officials promised to register a murder case against the policemen found guilty. A speedy trial was also promised once all the accused are arrested.
Authorities further assured the family that the guilty would be punished quickly. Meanwhile, political leaders continued visiting the grieving family through the day.
Former chief minister Arjun Munda met the family members. Former chief minister Raghubar Das also visited to console them.
Besides, former health minister Banna Gupta met the victim’s family as well. All the leaders assured the family of justice in the case.
On the other hand, the administration imposed prohibitory orders in seven police station areas of Jamshedpur. The order was also extended to Adityapur.
As a result, an all-party meeting called by former minister Saryu Roy was postponed. The meeting had been called regarding the law and order situation in the city.
Despite a postmortem being conducted late at night, the family’s anger did not fully subside. Relatives repeated their demand for swift and fair action in the case.
The killing had earlier led the family to refuse cremation over the job issue. Police had previously suspended four personnel and arrested two accused.
The case was converted to murder after Singh succumbed to his injuries. Several leaders had also sought a speedy trial in the matter.
