- Police department cites accountability lapse in suspension order
JAMSHEDPUR – The Jharkhand Police Department has suspended the Bistupur police station in-charge in connection with the high-profile murder outside the DD Bar killing case.
The suspension order was issued with immediate effect after senior officials held the station in-charge responsible for lapses linked to the incident. Police Inspector Niranjan Kumar has been named the new in-charge of Bistupur police station and has been directed to assume charge without delay.
The action follows a violent clash outside the Double Down Bar in the Bistupur area that left a young man dead. According to police, the case was initially registered as a stabbing and was later converted to murder after the victim succumbed to his injuries.
The victim has been identified in earlier police records as Himanshu Singh, a local Karni Sena leader. A BJP leader was among eleven people booked in connection with the brawl that preceded the stabbing.
Meanwhile, the killing triggered tension in parts of the city, with protesters briefly blocking the Regal roundabout over the death. The unrest added pressure on police to act swiftly against those found responsible.
Senior officials said the departmental order followed an internal review that fixed accountability at the level of the station in-charge for negligence in handling the matter. The episode has also renewed scrutiny of policing standards in Jamshedpur following a string of recent crime incidents.
Police officials said the investigation into the murder remains ongoing. They added that necessary action would be taken against all those found guilty in the case.
Inspector Niranjan Kumar has been instructed to take charge of the Bistupur police station immediately and ensure continuity in the ongoing probe.
